We followed Ken Cox's trail to Springweather Nature Area and to
Skitchewaug Mountain:

Location: Eleanor Elliis/Springweather Nature
Observation date: 3/7/10
Great Horned Owl 1 On nest. The nest is visible from the
Overlook (also known as the Gathering Place). A spotting scope is
needed to really see the bird.

Location: Skitchewaug Mountain
Observation date: 3/7/10
Peregrine Falcon 1 Perched above previous nesting site.
Visible from the Old Connecticut River Road. Park just south of the
Christmas Tree Farm and scan the top of the rocky ledges to the west
above Route 5. The falcon was perched in a short snag jutting from
the top of the rock ledge. A spotting scope is needed.

A Bald Eagle (third year bird) was perched in a tree above our pond
(a first for our yard).
