I've just returned from a visit to San Antonio that included a side trip
to the Texas Hill Country, and I need to ventilate. Having done my
research, I knew that golden cheeked warblers nest in the Pedernales
Falls State Park, and I had familiarized myself with their call which
similar to the blue winged's. To make a long story short, I go to that
state park, heard a golden cheeked singing (bee-biz-biz-biz) in a live
oak, and stood stood looking in the foliage for a full 10 minutes
without ever seeing bird. I had to give up because family members were
waiting for me. Big disappointment! There were consolation prizes:
scissor tailed flycatchers (many), a verdin, scrub jay, painted bunting,
as well as others that don't live in New England.
