This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, September 2nd, 
2014.



An immature BLACK TERN was seen at the Wilder Dam on the Connecticut River 
on September 1st and 2nd.



A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, a WESTERN SANDPIPER, and 5 RUDDY TURNSTONES were seen 
at the north end of Jenness Beach in Rye on August 30th. A WHITE-RUMPED 
SANDPIPER was seen here on the 31st.



A WESTERN SANDPIPER, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER a LEAST TERN, a LESSER 
BLACK-BACKED GULL, and a LAUGHING GULL were all reported from Hampton Harbor 
on SEPTEMBER 1st.



An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, an adult LITTLE BLUE HERON, 
18 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and 3 NORTHERN SHOVELORS were seen 
at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on August 31st.



At least 4 WHIMBRELS were seen along the coast during the past week.



7 LEAST SANDPIPERS, a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, and 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were 
reported from the Lake Umbagog area in Errol during the past week.



A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen at Cherry Pond in Whitefield, and 4 BONAPARTE’S 
GULLS were seen in the North Country during the past week.



Several RED CROSSBILLS were reported from the Squam Lakes Natural Science 
Center in Holderness on August 30th, 1 was reported from Freedom Town Forest 
on the 30th, and 3 were reported from Effingham on September 1st.



4 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported from the Freedom Town Forest on 
August 30th, and 1 was reported from Berry Bay in Freedom on September 1st.



A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was reported from the Nancy Pond Trail 
about one-quarter mile east of the east side of Nancy Pond on September 1st



2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS were reported from Lyman on September 1st.



A TENNESSEE WARBLER was reported from Ashland on August 27th, and 2 CAPE MAY 
WARBLERS and a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER were reported from the North Country 
during the past week.



2 VESPER SPARROWS were seen in Penacook on August 31st.



A PINE SISKIN was seen in New London on September 1st.



Migrating COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were reported from numerous locations throughout 
the state during the past week including 718 from Concord on September 1st, 
and 252 at Powder Mill Pond in Hancock on August 27th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Hancock on August 31st.



RAPTOR migration is under way with migrating raptors already being seen from 
the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and from 
the Carter Hill Observatory in Concord. Be sure to visit these staffed 
observatories this fall season to help out with the count!
