We do not mow our grasses and usually have that plethora of seed eating
birds in all our tall grass. However so far this year there are none.
Ditto on our over 300 wild apple trees etc. I'm not talking of a dearth
just at the feeders...they are almost nowhere to be found on our 85
acres or on the surrounding properties. Maybe strong weather systems
have affected them but whatever it is it feels wrong to me.

We're in that weird time in fall when most plants are seeding, providing a plethora of natural food for seed eating birds. It's also still warm enough where there's still a good amount of insects around for birds to eat (with the exception of tonight). When the insects are gone and the seed crops begin to dwindle I'm sure the birds will return to the feeders.
