This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, July 26th, 
2007.


A WESTERN GREBE was found on Squam Lake on July 21st, but has not been 
reported since then. It was found in the southwest portion of the lake 
between Perch Island and Moon Island. There is access for canoes and kayaks 
nearby on Route 3, about 1.5 miles east of Holderness, at the Squam Lakes 
Association headquarters. There is a $5 parking fee for non-members.  There 
is access for motorboats at the state launch in Holderness



An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen on Jenness Beach in Rye, and 5 
LAUGHING GULLS were reported from along the coast, all on July 24th.



A LITTLE BLUE HERON and a GREEN HERON were seen in Meadow Pond in Hampton, 
and 9 GREAT EGRETS and 6 SNOWY EGRETS were seen in Hampton Harbor, all on 
July 21st.



An immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported from Pickering Ponds in 
Rochester on July 21st.



A number of WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS have been seen along the coast during the 
past week with a high-number of 60 reported from Odiorne Point State Park in 
Rye on July 22nd.



10 SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, a NELSONS SHARP-TAILED SPARROW, a 
VIRGINIA RAIL and a GREEN HERON were seen at Chapman's Landing in Stratham 
on July 24th.



2 WHIMBRELS were reported from Hampton Harbor on July 24th.



2 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and a possible HORNED GREBE were seen from Rye Ledge 
in Rye on July 21st.



Shorebird migration is starting to pick up, and during the past week there 
have been a number of reports of LEAST, and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, SANDERLINGS, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and 
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Most sightings have been from the coastal Hampton 
area, with a few scattered sightings elsewhere on the coast, and inland on 
muddy lake edges.



7 BOREAL CHICKADEES and 25 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were reported by hikers on the 
Bondcliff Trail in Lincoln on July 24th and 25th.
