This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for July 14, 2008 covering the period
July 7 - 13, 2008.  

 

The highlight of the week was the Montpelier Bioblitz, a project of the
North Branch Nature Center, in which, during a 24-hour period 7/11-7/12, 86
species of birds were recorded in this first-ever inventory of an entire
state capital.

 

Sixty-two WOOD DUCKS (at least 27 of which were ducklings) were seen at the
Lake Bomoseen/Hubbardton marshes on 7/11.

 

A MERLIN was present in Proctor on 7/13.

 

Nine VIRGINIA RAILS, including young, were spotted in Tinmouth Channel on
7/12.

 

Two YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS were observed at Lefferts Pond on 7/11.
