This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, August 20th,
2013.
A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was seen in Benton on August 13th, but has not
been relocated.
A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen close to shore off of Seabrook Beach on
August 15th.
2 BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant
on August 16th, and a single BAIRD’S SANDPIPER and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER were
seen here on the 19th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of
operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the
office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have
to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the
road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not
gated, and are always open during daylight hours.
A MANX SHEARWATER was seen off the coast of Rye on August 18th.
2 LEAST TERNS and 2 LAUGHING GULLS were reported from the coast on August
17th.
A WHIMBREL and 17 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen in Hampton Harbor on
August 17th.
A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was seen in Hampton Marsh on August 17th.
An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen at Pease International Tradeport from the golf
course parking lot on August 18th.
A SEMIPALMATED PLOVER was seen at Streeter Pond in Sugar Hill on August
18th.
5 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER were seen in Charlestown on
August 19th.
41 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen along Island Path in Hampton on
August 18th.
A GREAT EGRET was seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on August 15th.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was seen in Freedom on August 17th.
An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen in Westmoreland on August 15th.
5 PURPLE MARTINS were seen along Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on August
17th.
A FISH CROW was reported from coastal Seabrook on August 17th.
A few CUCKOOS were reported during the past week including 2 BLACK-BILLED
CUCKOOS from Lyman on August 17th, 1 from Etna on the 17th, and a
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO from Amherst on the 17th.
A few MERLINS and PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen during the past week.
COMMON NIGHTHAWKS are beginning to be seen migrating south. Highlights
during the past week include 150 reported from Keene on August 20th, 41 in
Concord on the 18th, 71 in Suncook on the 18th, 38 in Peterborough on the
17th, and 25 in Merrimack on the 17th.
An estimated 400 BOBOLINKS were reported from NH Fish & Game’s Bellamy River
Wildlife Management Area in Dover on August 18th.
