This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, February 11th, 
2019.



A SNOWY OWL was seen in Newington on February 5th, and was reported again 
from Portsmouth on the 8th. Another SNOWY OWL was seen in downtown Dover, 
and 1 was seen at Hampton Beach State Park, both on the 10th.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen flying over Colby-Sawyer College in New London 
on February 9th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Manchester on February 6th, and 1 was seen in 
Hampton on the 9th. A MERLIN was seen in Newington on February 5th. An 
AMERICAN KESTREL continues to be seen in Milford, and was last reported on 
February 8th. A NORTHERN HARRIER was seen at the Keene Airport on the 9th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen behind Harley Jack’s on Route 16 in Ossipee on 
February 7th, and 1 was seen at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Newport on 
the 9th.



A GLAUCOUS GULL continues to be seen at Hampton Harbor and was last reported 
on February 8th. An ICELAND GULL was reported from Hooksett on February 9th, 
and 1 was seen in Hampton on the 10th.



A RAZORBILL and 2 RED-THROATED LOONS were seen in Great Bay from Adam’s 
Point in Durham on February 9th.



A SNOW GOOSE was reported from Fort Stark in New Castle on February 9th.



An adult male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen on the Androscoggin River in the 
13-mile woods section in Errol on February 7th and 9th.



2 male NORTHERN PINTAILS were seen on Powwow Pond in Kingston on February 
8th, and a female NORTHERN SHOVELER was seen in Hampton Marsh on the 10th.



A male GREEN-WINGED TEAL continues to be seen on the Androscoggin River in 
Gorham and was last reported on February 10th. This is an unusually far 
north and inland occurrence for this species in winter.



An estimated 1,200 BLACK SCOTERS were counted on the coast on February 10th.



There were a few PURPLE SANDPIPERS, BLACK GUILLEMOTS, and GREAT CORMORANTS 
reported from the coast during the past week.



22 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen in Concord on February 10th, 17 were seen in 
Sandwich on the 6th, 16 were seen in Newport on the 9th, 7 were seen in 
Dunbarton on the 9th, 6 were seen in Jefferson on the 7th, 3 were seen in 
Hanover Center on the 7th, and 2 were seen in Ellsworth on the 7th.



2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported from Manchester on February 6th.



15 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen at Opechee Park in Laconia on February 9th, 
43 were seen in Lyme on the 10th, and 40 were seen in Pike on the 7th.



A flock of 21 PINE GROSBEAKS was seen in Newport, and a flock of 14 was seen 
in Gorham, all on February 9th. A flock of 13 was seen in Penacook on the 
10th, a flock of 20 was seen in Sunapee on the 10th, and 8 were seen in Pike 
on the 7th.



A few flocks of EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from scattered locations 
during the past week, including several from Rockingham County.

A flock of 35 HORNED LARKS was reported from Walpole on February 9th, and a 
flock of 30 SNOW BUNTINGS was seen at Storrs Hill in Lebanon on the 10th.



A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen again in Kingston on February 9th.



A male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen near Little Cherry Pond in Jefferson 
on February 10th, and 3 CANADA JAYS were reported from Lyme on the 9th.



23 FISH CROWS were tallied in Salem on February 7th.



A KILLDEER was seen in Walpole on February 10th.



A flock of approximately 30 TURKEY VULTURES was reported from Exeter on 
February 6th, and 1 was seen in Jaffrey on the 5th.


Lingering migrant species reported during the past week included: RED-WINGED 
BLACKBIRD, COMMON GRACKLE, BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD, WINTER WREN, HERMIT THRUSH, 
TURKEY VULTURE, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, NORTHERN FLICKER, YELLOW-BELLIED 
SAPSUCKER, SAVANNAH SPARROW, FOX SPARROW, and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.
