The individual was seen working on an animal carcass on the ice on the
NH edge of the CT River a half mile north of the Hanover/Lyme town line
on River Road. When I slowed for a better look, the bird flew across to
the VT side and disappeared into a stand of white pines. Its mottled
plumage suggested a bird in its second or third year.
