This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, January 15th, 
2018.



A SANDHILL CRANE continues to be seen in Rollinsford, and was last reported 
from near Main Street and in fields along Roberts Road, on January 15th.



A SNOWY OWL was found in Keene on January 2nd and continues to be reported. 
It has been seen near Ash Brook Road, Production Avenue, and in the general 
area (including Hyundai, Subaru, and Days Inn) and was last reported on 
January 15th.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was reported from Rochester on January 13th, and one was 
seen in Fremont on the 14th.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON and a male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE were seen in Great Bay 
on January 14th.



A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE continues to be seen at Stark Landing on the 
Merrimack River in Manchester, and was last reported on January 9th. Another 
male was seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on the 10th.



A female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen on the Cocheco River in Dover on 
January 1st, 4th, and 11th.



A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was reported from the coast in North Hampton on 
January 15th.



A female BUFFLEHEAD was seen at Stark Landing on the Merrimack River in 
Manchester on January 10th, a WOOD DUCK was seen in Nashua on January 12th, 
a NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen in Cornish on January 12th, and a RED-THROATED 
LOON was seen at Dover Point in Dover on January 13th.



2 SANDERLINGS were seen along the coast in Rye on January 13th.



A BONAPARTE’S GULL was seen in Rye Harbor on January 13th.



An estimated 30 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were reported from Settlers Green near the 
Timberland store in North Conway on January 14th.



A flock of more than 25 SNOW BUNTINGS was seen in Keene on January 14th.



A male EVENING GROSBEAK was seen in Canaan on January 13th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen in Exeter on January 9th.



3 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS were seen at Great Bay Farm in Greenland on January 
11th.



A FOX SPARROW was seen in Penacook on January 11th, and 2 were seen in 
Rochester on the 10th.



A SAVANNAH SPARROW was reported from Hampton Beach on January 9th.



A CHIPPING SPARROW was seen in Salem, and one was seen in Atkinson, both on 
January 14th.



An EASTERN TOWHEE continues to be seen at a private residence in Wilton and 
was last reported on January 15th.



A PINE WARBLER was seen in Rochester on January 13th.



A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in East Kingston on January 13th.



10 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and 4 RED CROSSBILLS were reported from Wapack 
National Wildlife Refuge in Peterborough in January 10th. 4 RED CROSSBILLS 
were seen in New London on January 11th, 4 were seen in Hancock on the 13th, 
and 2 were seen in Center Harbor on the 11th.



YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS were seen in Manchester, Kingston, Salem, and 
North Conway, and there were a few NORTHERN FLICKERS and RED-BELLIED 
WOODPECKERS, all reported during the past week.



A flock of 30 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS was seen in Hampton on January 13th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Manchester on January 9th, and 1 was seen in 
Hampton on the 13th. A MERLIN was seen in Lebanon on January 14th.



Single RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were seen in Atkinson, Brentwood, Salem, and 
North Hampton during the past week.



6 TURKEY VULTURES were seen on a chimney at the Lincoln Street School in 
Exeter on January 14th.



Single FISH CROWS were seen in Salem and Hampton, and 2 were seen in Exeter, 
all during the past week.



A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was seen in Ashland on January 14th.



Each January the “Twitchers in the Rye” take part in an annual competition 
called the Superbowl of Birding to raise money for two NH Audubon programs –
