This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, April 16th, 
2009.



A GREAT GRAY OWL was found foraging in the forest on the south side of Dame 
Road in Durham near the Newmarket town line on April 4th, but has not been 
reported again since April 10th.



3 SANDHILL CRANES were seen in a field in Atkinson on April 14th.



A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE was reported from a flooded meadow off of 
Route 103, just south of Bradford, on April 11th.



A LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at the end of Depot Road in Hampton Falls on 
April 15th, and one was seen along Rosewood Lane in Spofford on the 12th.



A possible BLACK VULTURE was reported from Lee on April 11th.



50 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in Hanover on April 9th and 10th.



3 SNOW GEESE were seen in Jefferson on April 10th.



26 BRANT were seen along the coast at Rye Ledges on April 11th.



A EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 220 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 4 
GADWALL, and 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS were seen in Meadow Pond in Hampton on 
April 11th.



4 AMERICAN WIGEON and 150 GREEN-WINGED TEAL were seen in Hinsdale near the 
Ashuelot River Bridge on April 10th.



4 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen at Powdermill Pond in Hancock on April 
11th.



2 ICELAND GULLS, a GLAUCOUS GULL, 400 GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 200 HERRING 
GULLS, a FISH CROW, and 2 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were seen at the 
Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on April 15th. The treatment plant is 
gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, 
please check in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant 
personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and 
do not block the road.



A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Seabrook, near Hampton Harbor, on April 11th.



4 FISH CROWS were seen in Concord on April 13th, and two were seen in West 
Lebanon on April 15th.



2 MERLINS were reported from near the Wilder dam in Lebanon on April 10th.



5 AMERICAN PIPITS, and 15 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen in a field along River 
Road in Westmoreland on April 9th, and 20 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen in fields 
along Krif Road in Keene on the 14th.



4 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen near Village Road in Surry on April 
11th, and 4 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen on Hammond Hollow Road in Gilsum on 
April 12th.



A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen along Worthely Road in Seabrook on 
April 11th, and an AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Lyme on April 10th.



A LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was reported from Hampstead on April 11th.



2 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were seen in Hinsdale on April 10th.



4 BOREAL CHICKADEES and a GRAY JAY were seen on Mount Pierce on April 10th..



Early returning migrant species reported during the past week included 
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, WINTER WREN, TREE and BARN SWALLOWS, PINE, PALM, and 
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, FOX, SWAMP, and CHIPPING SPARROW, RED-SHOULDERED and 
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, OSPREY, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, EASTERN MEADOWLARK, 
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, KILLDEER, EASTERN PHOEBE, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, and HERMIT 
THRUSH.
