This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, November 
14th, 2012.



A female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was seen visiting a feeder in front of a 
house on South Street in East Kingston on November 8th.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was discovered at a private residence at South Mill 
Pond in Portsmouth on October 23rd, and has been seen repeatedly since then, 
and was most recently reported on November 10th.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON continues to be seen on Great Bay and was last 
reported on November 10th. Also seen were an ICELAND GULL, and a BRANT



A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen off of the north side of Great Boar's Head 
in Hampton on November 11th.



NORTHERN SHRIKE sightings during the past week included 1 in Westmoreland on 
November 9th, and 1 in Center Sandwich on the 11th.



PINE GROSBEAKS, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, RED CROSSBILLS, and COMMON REDPOLLS 
have been reported from numerous locations throughout the state during the 
past week. Highlights include: a PINE GROSBEAK in Stratham on November 8th, 
5 in Westmoreland on the 9th, 3 in Lyman on the 9th, 1 in Moultonboro on the 
9th, 1 in Wolfeboro on the 11th, 3 in Penacook on the 12th, 1 in North 
Conway on the 12th, 1 in Pittsfield on the 14th, and 8 in the Hanover area 
on the 14th; a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL in Mont Vernon on November 8th, 1 in 
North Hampton on the 11th, 5 in Penacook on the 12th, and 4 in Pittsfield on 
the 14th; 2 RED CROSSBILLS in Penacook on the 12th, and 3 in the Hanover 
area on the 14th; 2 COMMON REDPOLLS in Hudson on the 9th, 20 in Lyman on the 
9th, 20 in Moultonboro on the 9th, 1 in Chatham on the 9th, 1 in 
Westmoreland on the 10th, 30 in Penacook on the 11th, 3 in Penacook on the 
12th, 3 in Pittsfield on the 14th, 1 in Hanover on the 14th, and 5 in 
Barnstead on the 14th.



BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS sightings during the past week included 1 in Lyman on 
November 9th, 20 in Moultonboro on the 9th, 2 in Chatham on the 10th, 55 in 
Moultonboro on the 13th, and 5 in the Hanover area on the 14th.



EVENING GROSBEAK sightings during the past week included: 4 in Chester on 
November 9th, 8 in Peterborough on the 9th, 1 in Penacook on the 12th, and 1 
in Durham on the 14th.



Over 1,000 SNOW BUNTINGS and 1,000 HORNED LARKS were tallied at the Nashua 
Airport on November 12th, and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen there on the 10th.



150 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on November 14th.



25 SNOW BUNTINGS, 250 HORNED LARKS, 20 AMERICAN PIPITS, and 2 RUSTY 
BLACKBIRDS were seen at Morrill’s Farm in Penacook on November 11th, and 2 
LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 100 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen there on the 12th.



A flock of 21 AMERICAN PIPITS was reported from Westmoreland on November 
9th, and a flock of 100 were reported from Durham on the 11th.



2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from Keene on November 7th.



5 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen at the Hampton Harbor jetty on November 11th.



A DUNLIN was seen at Northwood Lake on November 13th.



9 HORNED GREBES were reported from Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonboro, and a 
single Pied-billed Grebe was reported from Jackman Pond in South Tamworth, 
all on November 9th.



3 RUDDY DUCKS were seen on Northwood Lake on November 13th, and 1 was seen 
on Lower Suncook Lake on the 14th.



Over 45 LESSER SCAUP were reported from the Exeter Wastewater Treatment 
Plant on November 10th.



A late-migrating WILSON'S WARBLER was seen in Penacook on November 12th, and 
a late-migrating WOOD THRUSH was reported from Westmoreland on November 
10th.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Hampton Marsh on November 10th and 11th.



26 TURKEY VULTURES were reported from Newmarket on November 11th.
