Signs of spring were evident along Kendall Station Road in Norwich, VT, this afternoon. Cynthia Crawford alerted me to the presence of recent arrivals of a male Wood Duck and Red-winged Blackbird. The largest number of Red-wings seen together was 10. Hearing Red-wing song again after many months without was a treat. Among 15 other bird species in that vicinity, 2 American Black Ducks, a Brown Creeper, and 4 American Goldfinches were perhaps the most unusual.  Both the Connecticut and Ompompanoosuc Rivers were covered with ice and snow, but there was some open water by the culvert under the causeway.
