This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, December 21st, 
2010.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on 
December 19th.



A DOVEKIE that was first reported close to shore on the south side of Great 
Boar's Head in Hampton on December 15th, has been seen numerous times since 
then, and was last reported on the 21st. A BLACK GUILLEMOT was seen in Rye 
Harbor on the 18th.



A BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale, and one 
was seen on the south side of Great Boar's Head in Hampton, both on December 
17th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in Concord, and one was seen at Surry Lake, both 
on December 19th. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen near the junction of Route 25 
and Highland Avenue in Plymouth on December 11th, and again on the 16th.



2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were seen in Westmoreland along Route 63 south of Route 
12 on December 19th, and one seen near Exit 20 on Route 93 in Tilton on 
December 17th.



An ICELAND GULL was seen on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith on December 20th.



40 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen on King Road in Etna on December 17th, and 
single BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, mixed in with flocks of CEDAR WAXWINGS, were 
reported from several locations during the past week



A small flock of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS was reported from Nashua on 
December 19th, and a single bird was reported from Manchester on the 15th.



A flock of 50 COMMON REDPOLLS was seen feeding in birch catkins on Chenell 
Drive in Concord on December 19th, 20 were reported from Keene, also on the 
19th, and there were a few reports of small numbers from several sites 
during the past week.



A PINE GROSBEAK, 20 EVENING GROSBEAKS, and 3 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen at a 
birdfeeder in Jefferson on December 20th.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were seen on South Mill Pond in 
Portsmouth, and 3 LESSER SCAUP and a COMMON LOON were seen on Spofford Lake 
in Chesterfield, all on December 19th.



2 PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen harassing a BALD EAGLE in Manchester on 
December 21st, An AMERICAN KESTREL and a PEREGRINE FALCON were seen in 
Keene, and a MERLIN and a PEREGRINE FALCON were seen in Concord, all on 
December 19th.



34 HORNED LARKS were seen in the fields located behind the U.S. Post Office 
on Loudon Road in Concord on December 19th.



There were a few reports of single WINTER WRENS from several locations 
during the past week.



A FOX SPARROW was seen in Penacook on December 19th.



Highlights from the Isles of Shoals Christmas Bird Count, which took place 
in both New Hampshire and Maine on December 19th, included 6 HARLEQUIN 
DUCKS, 3 NORTHERN GANNETS, 33 GREAT CORMORANTS, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 250 
PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 108 DUNLINS, 6 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, 5 DOVEKIES, 28 
RAZORBILLS, 32 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, 2 ATLANTIC PUFFINS, 2 WHITE-WINGED 
CROSSBILLS, and a COMMON REDPOLL.



Highlights from the coastal Christmas Bird Count on December 19th included a 
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 2 DOVEKIES, 156 RAZORBILLS, a BLACK-HEADED GULL, a 
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, an ICELAND GULL, 3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 3 NORTHERN 
PINTAILS, 2 RUDDY DUCKS, a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 16 EASTERN SCREECH-OWLS, a 
NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, 9 WINTER WRENS, a HERMIT THRUSH, a FIELD SPARROW, 2 
FOX SPARROWS, an EASTERN TOWHEE, a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, an OVENBIRD, a PINE 
WARBLER, a COMMON REDPOLL, an AMERICAN PIPIT, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD, and a GRAY 
CATBIRD.



Highlights of the Crawford Notch Christmas Bird Count that was held on 
December 18th included a SPRUCE GROUSE, a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 7 GRAY 
JAYS, 6 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 11 SNOW BUNTINGS, and 4 COMMON REDPOLLS.
