This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, February 20th, 
2017.



A VARIED THRUSH was discovered in Swanzey on December 12th and it has been 
seen many times since then. It was last reported on February 19th. The bird 
has been seen on the ground beneath birdfeeders on the left side of a house 
at 117 Westport Village Road, most often between 7:00-8:00 in the morning. 
The house is close to the road, which is very busy with little room for 
parking. The best option may be to park on the southeast side of the road 
between Depot Road and Sandy Road, or in the nearby church parking lot Be 
sure to leave adequate room for large trucks to get by and do not block any 
driveways. Please be respectful of the neighbors.



An immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was reported from a birdfeeder located 
behind a house in Epping on February 12th, and it has been seen every day 
since then.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen along Route 12 near the Malnati Farm in Walpole 
on February 14th.



A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen with a large flock of HORNED LARKS behind the 
Agway store in Walpole on February 15th through 19th.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was reported from Eel Pond in Rye on February 
20th.



A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Seabrook at Hampton Harbor on February 20th.



2 ICELAND GULLS were seen near Hedgehog Pond in Salem on February 14th, and 
1 was seen at the Shaw’s Plaza on Main Street in Nashua on the 20th.



A BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen from Stark Landing on the Merrimack River in 
Manchester on February 17th.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER, a RING-NECKED DUCK, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 2 GREEN-WINGED 
TEALS, a LESSER SCAUP, and 70 HORNED LARKS were seen at the Exeter 
Wastewater Treatment Plant on February 18th.



2 RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen at Canobie Lake in Salem on February 14th.



8 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 14 RAZORBILLS, and 2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS were seen along 
the coast on February 18th.



A flock of about 100 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen in Conway on February 14th, 
a flock of 130 was seen in Lyme on the 16th, a flock of 60 was seen in 
Gorham on the 16th, a flock if 36 was seen in New London on the 20th, a 
flock of 30 was seen in Bartlett on the 18th, and a flock of 225 was seen in 
apple trees at the Wildcat Mountain trails on the 19th.



A flock of 6 PINE GROSBEAKS was seen flying in Bartlett on February 13th.



An AMERICAN KESTREL was seen at Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on February 19th.



A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in Hollis on February 18th.



5 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at Kimball Road in Kensington on February 18th.



An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen in New Ipswich on February 17th.



A CHIPPING SPARROW was seen in Pittsfield on February 20th.



A FIELD SPARROW was seen several times at Boire Field in Nashua during the 
past week.



There were several WOOD DUCKS, TURKEY VULTURES, FISH CROWS, CAROLINA WRENS, 
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, NORTHERN FLICKERS, and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS 
reported during the past week.
