Linde McNamara and I, who monitor 26 bluebird boxes at Lower Shaker WMA in Enfield, found two dead adult Tree Swallows in two separate boxes this AM, something we've not encountered over the last several years. The birds appeared to have died this spring and were in boxes with no nests and no evidence of damage to the boxes (e.g. No bear predation.) Any thoughts as to the cause? Possibly cold exposure while roosting or infectious disease?
