A female Red-bellied Woodpecker, my first sighting of this species for
this year, was present for a time this morning (Jan. 5) both in front
and in back of the house here in Norwich village. Although this
species has been found at this location as far back as October 30,
1999, it was not detected here throughout calendar year 2010.
Other highlights among birds here in the yard today included an
American Tree Sparrow, five White-throated Sparrows, and at least
eight Northern Cardinals.
