This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, November 
17th, 2010.



A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was discovered in Westmoreland on November 7th and has 
been seen many times since then. It was last reported on the 16th. To look 
for the bird, traveling north on Route 12 from Westmoreland, go one-half 
mile past the intersection with Route 63, and just before the "Amish 
Furniture Store", turn left on River Road North. After one-half mile, the 
landscape opens up into a large cornfield on the left just past the 
Westmoreland/Walpole town line. There will be a 35mph speed limit sign on 
the right side of the road. The warbler was seen between this sign and a 
dirt drive a few hundred feet farther on the right. Please stay on the 
public road, as this is private property.



A LARK SPARROW was found in a flock of mainly HOUSE SPARROWS in shrubs 
located at the entrance into the parking lot at Hampton Beach State Park on 
November 13th. It has been seen several times since then and was last 
reported on the 17th. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen in the same shrubs on 
the 17th, and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen here on the 16th.



An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen off of Island Path in Hampton on November 
13th.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON was seen on Great Bay on November 13th and again on 
the 15th. Also present were 12 AMERICAN WIGEON, 10 HORNED GREBES, and over 
1,000 GREATER SCAUP.



A GOLDEN EAGLE and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were reported from Surry Mountain Lake 
on November 12th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE, 3 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were 
seen in Pittsfield on November 11th.



A COMMON REDPOLL was seen in Hampton on November 11th.



2 POMARINE JAEGERS, 4 unidentified JAEGERS, 9 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, 447 
NORTHERN GANNETS, and a RAZORBILL were seen off the coast of North Hampton 
on November 17th, and a BLACK GUILLEMOT was seen in Rye Harbor on November 
14th.



An ICELAND GULL, a BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 32 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and an AMERICAN 
WIGEON were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on November 10th.



2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 4 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 3 SURF SCOTERS, 3 COMMON 
MERGANSERS, and 7 BUFFLEHEADS were seen on Cherry Pond in the Pondicherry 
National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on November 14th.



66 BUFFLEHEADS, 6 COMMON GOLDENEYE, 4 BLACK SCOTERS, 4 SURF SCOTERS, 5 
RING-NECKED DUCKS, a LESSER SCAUP, 7 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 50 HOODED 
MERGANSERS, 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, a COMMON LOON, 3 RED-NECKED GREBES, and a 
BONAPARTES GULL were all seen on Mascoma Lake in Enfield on November 10th.



61 AMERICAN COOTS, and 3 PIED-BILLED GREBES were seen on Powwow Pond in 
Kingston on November 15th, and 9 AMERICAN COOTS, 3 BUFFLEHEADS, and a 
PIED-BILLED GREBE were seen on Eel Pond in Rye on the 14th.



A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was reported from Hampton Harbor on November 14th, 
and 6 were tallied on the 11th. A late-migrant LEAST SANDPIPER was also seen 
on the 11th.



A SPRUCE GROUSE, 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and 2 GRAY JAYS were reported by 
a hiker on Ethan Pond Trail in Bethlehem on November 11th, and a GRAY JAY 
was reported from the Caps Ridge Trail off of Jefferson Notch Road on the 
12th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen on Cogswell Road in Milan on November 
7th.



8 EVENING GROSBEAKS have been seen regularly at a bird feeder in Jefferson.



A late migrant BLACKPOLL WARBLER was seen in Hampton on November 14th, and a 
PINE WARBLER and a PALM WARBLER were seen in Hampton on the 11th.



2 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on November 14th.



A late migrant YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen in Portsmouth on November 
15th.



A GREAT EGRET was seen in Seabrook Marsh on November 11th.



A few late-migrating OSPREYS were reported during the past week.
