This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, November 19th, 
2013.



A male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD had been seen and photographed visiting 
hummingbird birdfeeders at a private residence in Manchester since October 
6th. It was most recently seen on November 16th, but has not been reported 
since then.



A WHITE-EYED VIREO was discovered at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth 
on November 10th, and has been seen on multiple days since then. It was most 
recently reported on the 18th. It has been most commonly seen in the 
vicinity of the water pump house near the marsh.



An adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen in Seabrook on November 15th, but 
has not been relocated.



A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from atop Carter Hill in Concord on November 14th.



A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE continues to be seen with CANADA GEESE on 
upper Main Street in Berlin and was most recently reported on November 18th.



An ICELAND GULL was seen at Rockingham Park in Salem on November 17th, and a 
BONAPARTE’S GULL was seen on Lake Winnisquam at the mouth of the 
Winnipesauke River in Laconia on November 18th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at the Strafford County Farm on November 17th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was reported from downtown Dover on November 15th.



3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, an AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 GREATER SCAUP, 3 NORTHERN 
SHOVELERS, 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL and 4 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at the 
Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on November 18th. The treatment plant 
is gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, 
please check in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant 
personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and 
do not block the road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the 
plant, are not gated, and are always open during daylight hours.



34 HORNED GREBES were seen on Lake Winnipesauke on November 18th.



2 AMERICAN WIGEONS, a NORTHERN PINTAIL, a GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 81 LESSER 
SCAUP, 7 RUDDY DUCKS, an AMERICAN COOT, and a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT were 
reported from the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on November 16th.



12 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2 LESSER SCAUP, 4 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 12 HOODED 
MERGANSERS, 14 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and an AMERICAN COOT were reported from 
World End Pond in Salem during the past week.



4 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 5 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, and a BLACK SCOTER were seen 
on Dublin Lake, and 73 COMMON MERGANSERS were seen at Howe Reservoir in 
Dublin, all on November 13th.



46 RUDDY DUCKS were seen on Beaver Lake in Derry on November 19th, 108 were 
seen on Canobie Lake in Salem on the 17th, and 8 were seen on Wilson Pond in 
Swanzey on the 17th.



63 HOODED MERGANSERS were reported from Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on 
November 16th.



2 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen on Mount Chocorua on November 17th, and 129 were 
tallied in Tilton on the 18th.



9 FOX SPARROWS were seen at a private residence in Derry on November 19th.



A late-migrating TREE SWALLOW was seen in Merrimack on November 14th.



The official New Hampshire Audubon sponsored RAPTOR migration count has 
completed for this year with over 11,000 migrating raptors reported from the 
Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and over 11,900 
reported from the Carter Hill Observatory in Concord, all since September 
1st.
