On my way north to work this morning at 0935, just past the cemetery in Lyme, there was a beautiful light-phase Rough-legged Hawk perched in the dead tree close to the road just before 21 Dartmouth College Highway. I pulled over and fumbled to get my camera out, but as I did the crows descended and dived at it forcing it to take flight across the field and marsh into one of the distant tall dead trees. It was visible from the road, but quite distant, binoculars, or better yet, telescope, needed. I did manage some poor but identifiable flight photos of three crows chasing the hawk. That large marsh area and field seems like an ideal stopover for a Rough-leg.

As I was in a hurry, I moved on, only to discover moments later a perched Sharpie in a tree next to the Chafee parking area. I did manage some quick shots before I had to move on.
