This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, December 10th, 
2018.



Birders on an offshore boat trip out of Hampton Harbor to Jeffrey’s Ledge on 
December 9th reported seeing: 155 DOVEKIES, 18 COMMON MURRES, 12 RAZORBILLS, 
6 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, 8 NORTHERN FULMARS, 3 POMARINE JAEGERS, 16 BLACK-LEGGED 
KITTIWAKES, 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS, 7 ICELAND GULLS, and 27 NORTHERN GANNETS.



Over 50 RAZORBILLS were seen in the Piscatqua River in coastal Portsmouth 
and New Castle on December 9th.



An adult male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen at Stark Landing on the Merrimack 
River in Manchester on December 10th, and a female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was 
seen on the Connecticut River in West Lebanon on December 10th.



2 male CANVASBACKS were seen on the southeast part of Great Bay in Greenland 
on December 5th, and there was a single male CANVASBACK seen in the 
southwest part of Great Bay on the 8th.



A SNOW GOOSE continues to be seen in coastal Rye and was last reported on 
December 9th.



3 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 5 LESSER SCAUP, and an ICELAND GULL were seen at the 
Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on December 8th. The treatment plant is 
only open to birders on weekends when workers are not present.



A flock of over 175 COMMON MERGANSERS was seen on Paugus Bay in Laconia on 
December 10th. A GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen in Wilson Pond in Swanzey on 
December 5th.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen soaring over Hampton Marsh on December 9th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was reported from Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge in 
Newington on December 6th.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT continues to be seen at Odiorne Point State Park in 
Rye, and was last reported on December 9th.



A female DICKCISSEL was seen in Keene on December 8th.



A SEASIDE SPARROW continues to be seen in Hampton Marsh and was last 
reported on December 9th.



Over 160 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen foraging on fruit trees around downtown 
Plymouth on December 5th.



COMMON REDPOLLS, PINE GROSBEAKS, EVENING GROSBEAKS and PINE SISKINS were 
reported from scattered locations during the past week, and sightings seem 
to be increasing in number. Of particular note was a flock of 50 COMMON 
REDPOLLS seen in Keene on December 5th.



Lingering migrant species reported during the past week included: AMERICAN 
KESTREL, GREAT BLUE HERON, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE 
WARBLER, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, CHIPPING SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW, VESPER SPARROW, 
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, HERMIT THRUSH, and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD.
