This morning along the Connecticut and Ompompanoosuc Rivers, a thin
layer of ice covered many water areas outside the main channels. From
Foley Park in Norwich, 17 Mallards, 19 Hooded Mergansers, and 3 Common
Mergansers were seen. Elsewhere, along the Connecticut River in the
vicinity of the mouth of the Ompompanoosuc River, there were 28
Mallards and 2 Hooded Mergansers. Highlights among 13 bird species
here in the backyard in Norwich village so far today have included an
American Tree Sparrow, 2 White-throated Sparrows, 6 Northern
Cardinals, 3 House Finches, a Pine Siskin, 2 American Goldfinches, and
an Evening Grosbeak.

George
