Caught a few nighthawks here and there driving from East Thetford to the confluence of the CT and Pompy rivers. We could see them in twos and threes over the fields. But when we turned up to Pirouette farm, it was the bonanza. Must have been similar to what Bill saw days ago. Perhaps 30-40 at a time. Magical.

PS: There’s one shot toward the end where the bird is leaving the frame and a lot of seemingly empty space behind it. This was included to show (if you click on the image to enlarge it) the number of insects that were swarming in the air up there. These birds may seem mercurial, but they’re pretty good at knowing where to show up.
