Wayne Scott found horned larks and lapland longspurs in North Haverhill, NH, in early January and several additional birders have seen them since that Jan. 7 report. Elaine Marie provided some nice photos on Feb. 1. The birds are still there. Today, there were about 35 horned larks scattered in the corn stubble and on mounds of dirt/manure in the field just north of Mace Hill Rd which runs east from Rt 10, just north of the Aldrich General Store. A single longspur flew from the same area to within about 35 ft of me. Previous birders have seen 4, but today, all birds abruptly took to the air, flying a bit (probably) further south. I assume the birds will continue to stay in the area as the fields are huge and the food resources are likely to be high.

As a bonus, a flock of about 25 common redpolls appeared as I was about to depart. It seemed to arrive from the north end of the same field.
