We have witnessed 2 Cooper Hawk attacks at our feeders in the past two days. Without getting into details, one was successful and one not, depending upon your point of view.

On a more pleasant note, a female hummer was still here yesterday, evening at our new house seeking nectar from the blue salvia.

I also wanted to mention what a wonderful time Janet and I had with a small group lead by Nathaniel Sharp from Vermont Center for Ecostudies and sponsored by Vital Communities, the Zebedee Wetlands Mystery Quest. We saw wood ducks and heard a blue eyed vireo, and watched hawks flying over head. But most amazing to me was learning about leaf miners in Golden Rod and how you can tell which leaf miner it is by the pattern it eats.

The Center does incredible work with Bicknell Thrush banding on Mt. Mansfield. I encourage all of you to check out its website and join!! Nathaniel’s enthusiasm is infectious. He should be in every school teaching our grandchildren.
Tim
