Attended concert at Orford Bandstand yesterday evening. Traveling by bicycle I had no folding chair so i sat in the grass, and eventually lay down on my back. First I noticed little flocks of what appeared to be swallows overhead, and shortly nighthawks in increasingly larger groups up to flocks of 15 or so sometimes pausing to dance together while feeding. Interestingly all of the birds were flying north so they may have been traveling a “traffic pattern” to feed over the nearby estuary where Jacobs Brook joins the Connecticut.
Next time I’ll put bins in my addle bag.
