This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, June 8th, 
2011.



A MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen flying near Gonet Road in Newmarket on June 6th. 
One of the best sites to watch for MISSISSIPPI KITES is in front of the 
elementary school located on South Main Street. MISSISSIPPI KITES nested in 
Newmarket last year.



5 ATLANTIC PUFFINS and 7 BLACK GUILLEMOTS were reported from Seavey Island, 
one of the Isles of Shoals, on June 6th, and 10 ROSEATE TERNS, 6 ARCTIC 
TERNS, and 4,000 COMMON TERNS were tallied here on May 28th.



A CLAPPER RAIL was reported from Hampton Marsh behind Little Jack's 
restaurant on Route 1A on June 3rd.



A pair of PIPING PLOVERS with three chicks was seen on Seabrook Beach on 
June 3rd.



A PURPLE SANDPIPER was seen in Rye on June 3rd, and 12 BLACK-BELLIED 
PLOVERS, 3 GREAT EGRETS, and 10 SNOWY EGRETS were reported from the coast on 
June 4th.



A GREAT EGRET was seen at Airport Marsh in Whitefield on June 5th.



A BICKNELL'S THRUSH was reported from the Mount Washington Auto Road on June 
7th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 2 GRAY JAYS, a BOREAL CHICKADEE, 3 BICKNELL'S 
THRUSHES, 7 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS, and a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET were 
reported from the Caps Ridge Trail off of Jefferson Notch Road on June 4th. 
The access road is currently closed to autos, but can be hiked or biked.



2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were seen at Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge 
in Jefferson on June 5th - One was near Mud Pond, where a GRAY JAY was also 
present, and the other was in a remote section near the Deadwater part of 
the refuge. There were several sightings of RUSTY BLACKBIRD, PALM WARBLER, 
and YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER from the refuge during the past week.



A MOURNING WARBLER was seen at the Unknown Pond trailhead located at the 
west end of York Pond Road in Berlin on June 4th, 2 were reported from along 
the 14-Mile Loop Road in Berlin on the 4th, and one was seen on the Colonel 
Whipple Trail off of Whipple Road in Jefferson on June 5th.



A birder hiked 6-miles near East Inlet in Pittsburg on June 7th and reported 
the following highlights: a RUFFED GROUSE, 2 COMMON LOONS, 3 WILSON'S SNIPE, 
a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 2 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO, 
2 GRAY JAYS, 5 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 2 TENNESSEE WARBLERS, 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, 
4 BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, a WILSON'S WARBLER, and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW.



A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK, and a SWAINSON'S THRUSH were 
reported from North Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on June 5th.



2 PALM WARBLERS, and an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER were reported from the area 
around Huntress Bridge Road in Effingham on June 6th.



An ORCHARD ORIOLE was reported from the New Hampshire Fish & Game Bellamy 
River Wildlife Management Area in Dover on June 4th.



3 FISH CROWS were reported from Fort Eddy Road in Concord on June 3rd.



A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Haverhill on June 5th.



A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Chester on June 7th.



Single WHIP-POOR-WILLS were heard in Orford and Hollis on June 7th.



A WILSON'S SNIPE was seen performing a courtship display in Webster on June 
5th.



There were several reports of PURPLE MARTINS, CLIFF SWALLOWS, and BANK 
SWALLOWS during the past week.



The PEREGRINE FALCONS that are nesting on the Brady-Sullivan building in 
Manchester now have hatched chicks. Check this link to webcam access:
