the birding was very good at Dewey's Mill in Quechee, this morning.
Out on the mill pond were a family of Canada Geese; I also saw a Green Heron fly towards me, and heard a female Virginia Rail calling. Tree swallows and Eastern Kingbirds flew overhead.
On the dike were the regulars: Song Sparrows, Goldfinches, RWBLs, Least and Willow Flycatchers, Warbling Vireos, Yellow Warblers and Common Yellowthroats.
On the VINS side of the Ottauquechee River I observed a Double-crested Cormorant, of which I obtained a few photographs which I will upload to Vermont eBird group on flickr. The cormorant was last seen flying downstream towards the dam.
I also observed a Great Blue Heron flying overhead, a family (presumed) of 4 Belted Kingfishers, and Northern Rough-winged Swallows catching insects near the water's surface.
Nice temperatures, partly cloudy skies, and moderate humidity.
Not a bad start to the Independence Day weekend.
Regards and good birding,
Bob
