This morning (September 8) we saw one hummingbird along on the
northeast driveway from Route 5 into Lake Runnemede at Windsor, VT.
Also, I saw another hummingbird late this afternoon visiting a variety
of flowers in the backyard here in Norwich village.

Other highlights at Lake Runnemede this morning included 2 Great Blue
Herons, 8 Wood Ducks, a singing Warbling Vireo, a silent Magnolia
Warbler, a singing Common Yellowthroat, and three Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks. One Sharp-shinned Hawk was present and interacting with
three crows. Sometimes a crow flew in pursuit of the hawk, presumably
a male in view of its small size. At other times the hawk would chase
a crow.

Along Rice Road just east of its junction with County Road in south
Hartland, this morning we saw one Great Blue Heron and another Sharp-
shinned Hawk together with crows.

Along North Hartland Reservoir off Clay Hill Road in Hartland near
noon today we saw a female Common Merganser and an immature Bald Eagle.

George
