A pileated has been feasting on our oriental cherry tree about 4 feet from a picture window. Our first encounter resulted in the bird flying directly into the window, followed by a hasty course correction. He stayed away for a day. Now a frequent visitor, this fastidious diner works his way through the cherries one at a time, giving us an up close view of that brilliant red crest.
