This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 30th,
2007.
A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was seen in Epping, along Mast Road, approximately
one-half mile south of Route 87, on May 26th. The bird could not be
relocated the next day, despite the efforts of several birders, however 4
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS made a great consolation prize. An additional
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen where Route 87 crosses the Lamprey River.
A LEAST BITTERN, 2 MARSH WRENS, and a VIRGINIA RAIL were found in the NH
Audubon Thompson Wildlife Sanctuary in North Sandwich on May 25th. Access

A CLAPPER RAIL was first reported in Hampton Marsh from behind Little Jack's
restaurant on Route 1A in Hampton on May 19th, and was last reported on the
25th. Several SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS were also reported from here
during the past week.
A first-summer plumaged LITTLE GULL was seen with a flock of COMMON TERNS at
Frost Point in Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on May 26th.
A THICK-BILLED MURRE was seen along the coast in Hampton south of Great Boar's
Head for several days and was last reported on May 25th.
A BREWSTER'S WARBLER, a hybrid between a BLUE-WINGED and a GOLDEN-WINGED
WARBLER, was seen at the Nature Conservancy's Lubberland Creek Preserve in
Newmarket on May 28th.
Several NELSON'S and SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, a SORA, and 2 VIRGINIA
RAILS were reported from Chapman's Landing in Stratham during the past week.
An AMERICAN COOT was seen at the Brentwood Mitigation Area on May 26th.
2 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen at the Pease International Tradeport on May
26th.
14 PURPLE MARTINS were seen along Route 153 in Freedom on May 25th.
2 ORCHARD ORIOLES were reported from the Hinsdale Bluffs on May 25th, 1 was
seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant on the 27th, 1 was seen in
Newmarket on the 28th, 1 was seen at the Brentwood Mitigation area and 1 was
seen along McIntyre Road in Newington, both on the 26th.
A RED KNOT was seen in Rye on May 26th.
Several SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were reported from Squam Lake on May 25th.
A female RUDDY DUCK was reported from the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant
on May 25th.
A GREATER SCAUP was seen off of North Beach in Hampton on May 26th.
A BLUE-WINGED TEAL was seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant on May
29th.
A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was heard at the Hinsdale Setbacks on May 26th.
26 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported from Pittsburg on May 26th.
CAPE MAY, BAY-BREASTED, MAGNOLIA, MOURNING, YELLOW-RUMPED, WILSON'S,
BLACKBURNIAN, CHESTNUT-SIDED, CANADA, BLACK AND WHITE, YELLOW,
BLACK-THROATED BLUE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, NASHVILLE AND BLACKPOLL WARBLERS,
as well as NORTHERN PARULAS COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, and AMERICAN REDSTARTS
were all seen at the Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on May 25th.
