This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, February 9th, 
2015.



A juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was discovered near the public boat launch 
at Adams Point in Durham on November 10th. It has been seen several times 
since then, and was last reported on February 8th.



A GOLDEN EAGLE was reported from River Road in Westmoreland on February 4th.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was reported from Keene on February 8th.



A SNOWY OWL continues to be seen at Ragged Neck in Rye, and was last 
reported on February 8th.



A SNOWY OWL continues to be seen at Hampton Beach State Park or in coastal 
Seabrook and was last reported on February 1st.



A THICK-BILLED MURRE was seen on the south side of Great Boar’s Head in 
Hampton on February 4th, 1 was seen from Little Boar’s Head in North Hampton 
on the 7th, and 1 was seen off of Jenness Beach in Rye on the 8th.



2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS and 33 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen from Little Boar’s 
Head in North Hampton on February 7th.



A BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen at the Hampton Wastewater Treatment Plant, and 
a GLAUCOUS GULL was seen in Hampton Harbor, both on February 7th.



3 ICELAND GULLS and a GREAT CORMORANT were seen along the Merrimack River in 
Manchester on February 7th.



2 males and 1 female BARROW’S GOLDENEYE were seen in the Merrimack River 
near Waumbec Mills in Manchester on February 4th. 7 GREAT CORMORANTS were 
seen here on the 3rd.



2 male BARROW’S GOLDENEYES were seen on Great Bay from Adam’s Point on 
February 7th.



A HOARY REDPOLL was seen with a flock of 250 COMMON REDPOLLS in Littleton on 
February 6th.



A HOARY REDPOLL was seen with a flock of 200 COMMON REDPOLLS in Lincoln on 
February 7th.



COMMON REDPOLL sightings during the past week included: 42 in Walpole on 
February 4th, 12 in Newport on the 7th, 160 in Jefferson on the 9th, 100 in 
Lincoln on the 7th, 100 in Littleton on the 7th, and 40 near the Manchester 
Airport on the 9th(awaiting flight clearance).



2 PINE GROSBEAKS were seen along Route 2 in Gorham on February 7th.



BOHEMIAN WAXWING sightings during the past week included: 43 in Lincoln on 
February 3rd, 26 in Littleton on the 6th, 20 in Gorham on the 6th, 14 in 
Milan on the 6th, 120 in Plymouth on the 7th, 30 in Orford on the 7th, 40 in 
Bethlehem on the 7th, 175 in Gorham on the 7th, 50 in Berlin on the 8th, and 
37 in Sunapee on the 8th. These flocks were seen mainly foraging on 
ornamental fruit tress, or resting nearby them.



A flock of 12 EVENING GROSBEAKS was reported from Jefferson on February 9th.



4 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were reported from Walpole on February 7th.



A flock of 75 SNOW BUNTINGS was seen at Martin farm along Old Auburn Road in 
Derry, and a flock of 18 was seen at the Kelley Horse Farm in Milan, all on 
February 7th.



A flock of 50 HORNED LARKS was seen at Boggy Meadows Farm in Walpole, and a 
flock of 28 was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant, all on 
February 7th,



There have been continued PINE SISKIN sightings during the past week with 
small flocks reported from many locations, and a few flocks of 50 to 100 
birds.



2 GRAY JAYS were seen on Chickwolnepy Road in Milan in February 7th, and 1 
was seen near the summit of Mount Jackson in the White Mountains on the 8th.



A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen in Derry on February 8th, 1 was seen in 
Nashua on the 9th, and 1 was seen in Manchester on the 9th.



A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in Concord on February 8th.



A WINTER WREN was reported from Hanover on February 6th.



A MERLIN was seen in North Hampton on February 8th, and a PEREGRINE FALCON 
was seen along the coast on the 7th.



A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was reported from North Hampton on February 8th, and a 
NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in North Hampton on February 7th.



A BARRED OWL was seen in Bow on February 8th, and 1 was seen in Sunapee on 
the 9th. Other OWL species reported during the past week included: NORTHERN 
SAW-WHET OWL, EASTERN SCREECH-OWL, and GREAT HORNED OWL.



3 TURKEY VULTURES were seen in Exeter on February 7th.



A female NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen with a group of 125 MALLARDS and AMERICAN 
BLACK DUCKS in a small pond adjacent to University Drive in Nashua on 
February 8th, and a male NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment Plant on the 7th.
