This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, September 
23rd, 2009.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was reported from Star Island, one of the Isles of 
Shoals, on September 20th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was reported from the east end of River Road in 
Stratham on September 22nd.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Frost Point at Odiorne Point State 
Park in Rye on September 22nd.



A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and 70 KILLDEER were tallied at Moore Fields on 
Route 155A in Durham on September 20th, and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen 
there on the 18th.



A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen from the public access point adjacent to the 
Yankee Fisherman's Cooperative at Hampton Harbor on September 21st, and 
22nd.



3 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS and 5 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were seen in Rye 
Harbor on September 22nd, and 3 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen migrating 
at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on the 19th.



A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was reported from Henry's Pool in Hampton on 
September 19th.



5 WHIMBRELS and 17 AMERICAN KESTRELS were reported from the Pease 
International Treadeport in Portsmouth on September 16th.



A GLOSSY IBIS was reported from Chapman's Landing in Stratham on September 
18th.



Over 50 GREAT EGRETS and 14 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in Hampton 
Harbor on September 21st, and 13 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in 
Little Harbor in New Castle on the 19th.



A flock of over 50 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS was reported from Granite Lake in Nelson 
on September 22nd.



4 AMERICAN WIGEON were reported from the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant 
on September 21st.



A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was reported from Moore Fields on Route 155A in 
Durham on September 22nd, and a VESPER SPARROW was reported from Durham on 
the 19th.



A few late-migrating COMMON NIGHTWAWKS and RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS were 
reported during the past week.



HAWK migration is under way with 5,030 raptors reported from the Pack 
Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough since September 1st. 
The biggest single-day counts to date were 2,129 raptors on September 16th, 
and 715 raptors on the 21st. NH Audubon is again operating a second raptor 
observatory at Carter Hill Orchard in Concord, and its biggest single day 
was also on the 16th with over 300 raptors. Be sure to visit both 
observatories to help out with the count!
