Waterfowl at Killowatt South this afternoon included common goldeneye, common merganser, hooded merganser, ring necked duck, scaup, 2 male wood ducks, 1 male green winged teal, Canadian Geese, bufflehead, black ducks, and mallards. The highlight was hearing a rather vocal Merlin calling from the North end of Killowatt. After a short walk Northward, I watched a pair of merlin fly in to the top of a tree, mate for about 3 or 4 seconds and then the male left while the female remained on the branch for at least another 10 minutes. Had great looks at the female through the scope but no luck finding their nest.
