This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, April 13th, 
2015.



A SNOWY OWL was seen in Hampton Marsh, and 1 was seen at Pease International 
Tradeport, both on April 10th.



A dark-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen at Great Bay National Wildlife 
Refuge in Newington on April 11th. A light-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen 
along the coast in Hampton on April 11th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Pitcher Mountain in Stoddard on April 7th.



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was first reported from fields along Newington 
Road near Great Bay Farm in Greenland on April 3rd, was still present on the 
7th, and was relocated on Great Bay on the 10th.



2 CACKLING GEESE were seen in fields along River Road in Stratham on April 
7th.



A CACKLING GOOSE, a SNOW GOOSE, and 3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were reported from 
Great Bay on April 7th.



2 SNOW GEESE were reported from Moore Fields along Route 155A in Durham on 
April 9th, and 1 was seen in Orford on the 13th.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON, 20 AMERICAN WIGEON, 3 GADWALL, 5 LESSER SCAUP, 3 
GREATER SCAUP, 6 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 2 PIED BILLED GREBES, and 444 
RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on April 
11th and 12th. A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was seen on the Connecticut River in 
Charlestown on April 7th.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON was seen on Great Bay on April 12th.



A female CANVASBACK continues to be seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment 
Facility and was last reported on April 8th.



A REDHEAD was seen at World End Pond in Salem on April 8th, 12th, and 13th.



5 NORTHERN SHOVELERS were seen in farm fields in East Kingston on April 7th, 
and 2 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen here on the 11th.



4 NORTHERN SHOVELERS were seen in Hampton Marsh on April 12th.



2 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen in farm fields along West Portsmouth Street in 
Concord on April 7th.



2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS and 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen at the Exeter 
Wastewater Treatment Facility on April 11th.



10 NORTHERN PINTAILS and 6 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen at Sawyer Farm in 
Westmoreland on April 11th.



8 NORTHERN PINTAILS and 2 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen in farm fields along 
River Road in Walpole and Westmoreland on April 8th.



A GADWALL, 4 NORTHERN PINTAILS, and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at Great 
Meadows in Charlestown on April 9th.



3 GADWALL, 12 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, and 280 GREEN-WINGED 
TEAL were seen at Great Meadows in Charlestown on April 11th.



A pair of GADWALL, and 5 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from World End Pond 
in Salem on April 8th.



A pair of GADWALL was seen at Rockingham Park in Salem on April 12th.



A RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was seen at World End Pond in Salem on April 9th.



A GLOSSY IBIS, a NORTHERN PINTAIL, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 
and 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen at Chapman’s Landing in Stratham on April 
11th.



3 GLOSSY IBIS were seen flying over Exeter on April 11th.



3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, a FISH CROW, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 2 NORTHERN 
SHOVELERS, and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater 
Treatment Plant and adjacent Pickering Ponds on April 8th. The treatment 
plant is gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you 
visit, please check in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that 
plant personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the 
dikes and do not block the road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east 
of the plant, are not gated, and are always open during daylight hours.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen along South Road in East Kingston on 
April 9th and 11th, and one was seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on April 
11th.



An ICELAND GULL was seen at Rockingham Park in Salem on April 9th.



8 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen in Hampton on the 12th, and 1 was seen in 
Boscawen on the 13th.



A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was seen at the Riverlands Conservation Area in 
Canterbury on April 13th.



77 WILSON’S SNIPE were seen along Frying Pan Lane in Stratham on April 9th.



A flock of 14 PURPLE SANDPIPERS was seen along the coast in Hampton on April 
11th.



4 RED CROSSBILLS were seen at the Mink Brook Nature Preserve in Hanover on 
April 9th, and 1 was seen in Hancock on the 12th.



A flock of 9 EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Jefferson on April 9th, and 1 was 
seen in Durham on the 10th.



7 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen migrating north along the coast on April 11th.



A flock of 70 HORNED LARKS was counted at Chickering Farm in Westmoreland on 
April 11th.



COMMON REDPOLL sightings reported during the past week included a flock of 
11 in Bartlett on April 10th, a flock of 50 in Hancock on the 9th, a flock 
of 50 in Jefferson on the 9th, a flock of 50 in Ellsworth on the 7th, and a 
flock of 80 in Ashland on the 12th.



BOHEMIAN WAXWING sightings continued during the past week and included a 
flock of 35 in Salem on April 10th, a flock of 48 in Grantham on the 10th, a 
flock of 100 in Concord on the 11th, a flock of 100 in Nashua on the 11th, a 
flock of 200 in Concord on the 12th, and a flock of 70 in Concord on the 
13th. These flocks were seen mainly foraging on ornamental fruit tress, or 
resting nearby.



A PURPLE MARTIN was seen in Seabrook on April 12th.



A NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, 7 BARN SWALLOWS, and 1,000 TREE SWALLOWS 
were counted migrating along the coast on April 12th.



2 FISH CROWS were reported from Gilford on April 12th, and 2 were seen in 
Nashua on April 10th.



A PALM WARBLER was seen at Strafford County Farm in Dover on April 7th.



Small numbers of PINE WARBLERS were reported during the past week.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at the Riverlands Conservation Area in 
Canterbury on April 12th, and 1 was seen on the Brady Sullivan Building in 
Manchester on the 11th.



There were several reports of BROAD-WINGED HAWKS on April 13th.



A VESPER SPARROW was seen in Salem on April 12th, and several FIELD SPARROWS 
were seen during the past week.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Hollis on April 13th, and there were several 
reports of SNOWY and GREAT EGRETS from the coast during the past week.



There were scattered reports of small numbers of early returning migrants 
during the past week, including: AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, WILSON’S SNIPE, 
KILLDEER, EASTERN PHOEBES, TREE SWALLOWS, FOX SPARROWS, SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 
HERMIT THRUSHES, RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, COMMON GRACKLES, 
BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS, GREAT BLUE HERONS, TURKEY VULTURES, OSPREYS, 
RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, NORTHERN HARRIERS, MERLINS, RING-NECKED DUCKS, HOODED 
MERGANSERS, WOOD DUCKS, and YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS
