Yesterday's annual census on Burke Mt. was eerily quiet for the most
part, probably because the mountaintop was bathed in clouds, with temps
~45 degrees F and a NE breeze. No Bicknell's Thrush (they are
intermittent there) and not a single Blackpoll Warbler, only 2
White-throats heard. Yet Winter Wrens, Y-b Flycatchers and Swainson's
Thrush were all in full voice. A strange sight was a Mourning Dove
sitting on a nest in a heart-leafed paper birch at ~3200' elevation.
