This morning I spent quite a bit of time looking at the edge of the
large pond that is among the mounds of dried mud behind Price Chopper.
Ultimately I checked out all of the other channels oh muddy water in
that area. I did not see the bittern bur did here a "kwok" from a green
heron back among the trees.

With time on my hands, I walked farther along the driveway that leads
farther back behind the shopping center. When  I got to a point that
must have been behind Michaels, I found a patch of open water that
seemed more promising (more natural) than any I had encountered
previously. As I arrived I heard a different call (kak kak kak) that
initially made me think of a rail. Now that I have consulted online
recordings, I think I probably heard the elusive bitter. However, I did
not see it.
