Please share this information with folks in your area who may be  
interested.  Subsidies are granted to students in doctoral courses and  
to researchers within five years of finishing their doctoral courses.

Amount: 500,000 yen maximum (approx. $5,000)

Deadline: May 16, 2008. The application period is from April 7, 2008,  
to May 16, 2008.

Eligibility: Subsidies are granted to students in doctoral courses and  
to researchers within five years of finishing their doctoral courses.  
There will be no distinctions made as to nationality or qualification.  
Those who received grants from the foundation in the past cannot apply.

Abstract: The Matsushita International Foundation was established with  
the objective to contribute to the development of world culture and  
peace by promoting mutual understanding between Japan and other  
countries and by developing personnel capable of promoting this  
understanding. In line with this goal, the foundation provides funds  
to research activities in the areas of humanities and social sciences  
that pertain to establishing international relationships based on  
global perspectives, solving various issues existing between Japan and  
other countries, or proposing various measures to promote mutual  
understanding.

The foundation expects challenging themes that are creative and filled  
with pioneering ideas as well as international research, on issues of  
social, academic, and international needs in the broad area applicable  
to the above mentioned objective.
