Do I understand you right that you mean to open files in 'default
application' - e.g. '.doc' with MSWord, '.cwk' in AppleWorks, '.xls' in
Excel, '.rtf' with NWP, '.odt' using OpenOffice/NeoOffice etc.?
If so you can use RCDefaultApp 2.1 to select which type of files to be
opened in which application - not only text files but a large range of
other file types - for example .mkv and .vob to be used with VLC etc..
