Hello again,

Indexing cross-references are strange things. Have you ever tried using them?

If you select “Nisus Writer” and give it the cross-reference “See: Software”, and _do nothing else__ your index will look like this:

Index
Nisus Writer. See: Software.

Note that there is no entry for “Software” and no page reference anywhere!

So really, you have to index all cross-references twice; once using “Index As” for the topic you want them to be found under (and for the page number) and a second time for the cross-reference. But notice also that for the cross-reference it doesn’t matter which page the term is indexed on, since the cross-reference won’t actually be using the page information at all. But here is where things get even crazier, if the cross-reference uses “Index As” it won’t care _what_ you are indexing either! Imagine I select “Nisus Writer” and then index it as “Microsoft Office” with cross-reference “See: Software”, then the index will show:

Microsoft Office. See: Software.

even though there will be no “Microsoft Office” or “Software” in my document.

This means that for your problem the solution is therefore the same as for any other cross-reference.

1. Index “foi” in your vocabulary index (if that’s what you want.)
2. Index “foi” in your notions index as “truth/sincerity”
3. Index some bit of text of your choice (maybe “foi” if you like) and give it the "Index As" topic “foi” and the cross-reference “See: truth/sincerity". This should be done in whichever index you want the cross-reference to appear (perhaps in both). If this is in the vocabulary index, you may want to make the cross-reference “See: [Notions] truth/sincerity”, or something like that.

best
Philip

I mean, I have two indices, one "notions" and another "vocabulary"; in the vocabulary index, I want to make an entry for the (French) word "foi", which would refer to "truth/sincerity" in the "notion" index. Using "Index As" dialogue box, it is certainly possible to make a cross-reference to another topic in the same index, but there seem to be no possibility to do that in another index. Is there any workaround?
