The Document Manager does require some careful attention but it does have its uses.

You don't save to the DM, you save where you want and then get the document path when you have gorgotten where it is stored.

Open>Recent. I've just noticed that some of the items have a folder attached. This new to NWP 2. But other files don't. I wonder why not.

Just to add to the angst about Nisus Classic not being available; for goodness sake it is ten years and a new century since it was superseded. What will make it harder is that Mac OS Lion will really require upgrading of hardware and software through the whole system. But then again, by checking the pre-loved Mac market will make upgrading slightly less horrifying, particularly by checking recognised resellers. There is, for example, in Melbourne, Oz, a company 'New Wave' who have been dealing with pre-loved Macs since the last century. Some come with AppleCare thrown-in.
Just a thought.

And what a great feature that was, and a great feature for the same reason that the Document Manager is (although I didn't grok it initially and thought it was just silly -- I still think it is silly to save documents in general to it, but others might work in totally different ways!), only I wish I could make it a bit slimmer.
