That is normal when both the main text and notes are selected together.

That is because your selection also includes the index (automatic text) which was inserted in the document.

If you intend to have just one index of authors and you already inserted an index in your document which includes entries from the main text, and then you marked footnotes for indexing, you only need to update the index already inserted by placing the cursor anywhere in the index and applying the Rebuild Index command from Tools:Index. The rebuilt index will be updated to include entries from both the main text as well as the footnotes.

I've experimented with <Copy Table> under <Table>, but in vain.

If the word list is a one-column table, sect all and Copy. Then from the Table menu apply the Insert:Column to the Right command and (while all the cells in the right column are selected) Paste.
