Thanks Ben, you sadly confirmed my fears....

Good to hear you managed that. Regarding the CD/DVD drive you can get a
compatible dual-layer 22x CD/DVD ATAPI/ATA DL-drive from OWC for - if I
remember right - apprx. 30USd +pp. The best and most reliable for a MDD
is the Pioneer DVR-117D (same as DVR-127A SuperDrive) or DVR-118D. You
can also use the Pioneeer DVR-115D 8x DVD-DL drive.

Maybe you can find that model cheaper locallly instead of buying at OWC.

NB. You may also be able to use a Pioneeer DVR-111D, but here you need
to be careful, since exact this model is 'branded' for each computer
brand. That means that one with firmware for a HP, Acer, Asus, Sony,
Dell etc. willnot work in a MDD - or any Mac at all. For the time being
I know that there are at least 10 or 11 different versions of the DVR-111D.

Cheers, Erik Richard
