My note references have the form (in Superscript):

I would like to change the automatic form to:
1)
2)
3)
or to
[1]
[2]
[3]
How can I do that?
I thought note references could be customized, but now I am unable to do that, even after having consulted the manual and scrutinized the styles. I know I could add ")" per hand or write a macro that places ")" after each note reference number, but that is not what I want.
