Language Technology Specialist and Director,
Jane Evans Language Learning Center
Drake University seeks a person knowledgeable in the use of educational
technology in the teaching and learning of foreign languages to support and
promote the use of this technology among faculty, students, and
staff. This person will work with students to help them utilize the
complex and rapidly evolving educational technologies as they pertain to
the learning of foreign languages, literature, and cultures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assume the administrative duties, including training and active supervision
of the Jane Evans Language Learning Center (LLC).
Assist students and faculty using software, hardware, and other
technologies available in the LLC, either individually or in a class
setting (orientation, short courses, etc.)
Work with Office of Information Technology Center (OIT) staff and the LLC
director to install and test software and hardware for the LLC, integrate
LLC technology seamlessly into the campus computing infrastructure, and
work with OIT in collaborative network management particularly with regard
to management of non-roman fonts.
Develop and up-date documentation on use of the LLC, training of LLC
assistants, and use and maintenance of LLC equipment (both in hard copy and
Web format)
Work with the Librarian, Coordinator for Materials Managment in Cowles
Library to insure that MARC records for software, audiovisual, and bound
materials housed in the LLC are represented and integrated into the Library
on-line catalog.
Develop the Jane Evans Language Learning Center Web page
Establish professional relationships, via the Internet and other means,
with language technology specialists at institutions in the US and other
countries.
Requirements: MA in ESL or foreign language required (degree in
instructional technology only if it combines with substantial experience in
foreign language computing); PhD/EdD preferred; 3 years managerial
experience in foreign language instruction technology; 2-3 years teaching
ESL or a foreign language; fluency in English and one other language;
supervisory experience.
Preferred: Experience in directing or coordinating projects involving the
use of technology-based materials in higher education; experience in
instructional design and development, educational research/evaluation or
related areas.
Position reports to Director of the Drake University Language Acquisition
Program. It is a full-time, 12-month appointment starting as soon as
possible. The initial appointment is for three years and will run through
August 15, 2005. Further renewals will be possible, based on need and
accomplishments. Salary is competitive. Applicants should send a letter,
