If you have a moment...

I work sometimes as an Indonesian interpreter for a phone company called
CanTalk Canada. They have a large directory of interpreters in many
languages. If someone requests help with a client who speaks only
Indonesian, I get a call, we are connected, and there is a three-way
interpreted conversation. It pays just under $1 per minute (you can
apply if you are interested), and I enjoy being able to use this skill
to help people in various situations. In the years I have been doing
this, I have helped Indonesian speakers, mostly in Canada, apply for
refugee status or political asylum, report immigration and workplace
abuse, or tell 911 where their car broke down.

This morning I was asked to interpret for a woman about to have a
C-section. I was on the call for the entire procedure, and even got to
hear the baby's first cry. With many calls I can ask questions to
clarify meaning, but this was different.

I usually sit at my desk with an online dictionary open, in case there
is a word I want to double check. I have been using Kamus.net. But
listening in at the operating room today—looking up words like sepsis
and hemorrhage (likely influenced by watching too many episodes of
Gray's Anatomy with my daughter over the holidays)— made me wonder if
Kamus.net is the ideal English<>Indonesian online dictionary available
for this purpose.

I would like to know from others who work with Indonesian speakers:
which do you think is the best online dictionary for interpreting, do
you use one, and would you go to a different one for translating?
