**Friday, January 28th. 8pm. MILKING THE RHINO. Collis 101**
Presented by Dartmouth's Sustainable Living Center and Round River Conservation
Studies. Susie Dain-Owens ('05) of Round River, will be here to introduce the
film and answer any questions afterwards.
Milking the Rhino examines the deepening conflict between humans and animals
in an ever-shrinking world. It is the first major documentary to explore wildlife
conservation from the perspective of people who live with wild animals. Shot in
Namibia and Kenya, it offers complex, personal portraits of rural Africans
at the forefront of community-based conservation: a revolution that is turning
poachers into preservationists and local people into the stewards of their land. Charting
the collision of ancient lifestyles with Western expectations, Milking the Rhino tells
intimate, harrowing, and hopeful stories about rural Africans in the midst of
deep cultural change.

Round River Conservation Studies is a non-profit organization dedicated to conservation
strategies that preserve and restore wild places. We believe ecological study
enriches one's personal land ethic and strengthens a community's collective wisdom; to
that end, we strive to develop and support traditions that sustain wildness.
