Right now the starting salary is $5.70 for lab attendants, the senior lab attendant salary is $6.30 and the student manager position pays $8.00. Believe it or not I also have student programers who are accepting $8.00 an hour!!! How did I get so lucky?? For the same reasons Read Gilgen gives... and believe it or not 99.9% stay until they graduate, and this year I have 3 returning who will be in graduate school. For us it's all about environment and the reputation we've built up over the years as a good place to work on campus. Word does get around and normally I receive over one hundred applicants to fill 5 or 6 open positions. Our lab staff ranges from 15-25 students depending on projects and the number of hours students can work in any given semester .. they staff 196 hours a week. Perhaps the data you collect could be used by the rest of us to negotiate higher salaries.
