Austin State University seeks a Modern Languages Instructional Technology Specialist to serve as Director of the Modern Languages Learning and Resource Center and to provide technological support to the College of Liberal Arts. This is a 12-month position beginning late August, 1999. Compensation is competitive. The successful applicant will guide the integration of instructional technology into the Modern Languages curriculum, maintain and develop the LRC, and support other college computer laboratories. Reporting to the Department of Modern Languages and the College of Liberal Arts, the successful candidate will exhibit a broad range of technological skills and a solid grasp of technology-based language pedagogy. Qualifications for the position include an advanced degree in Spanish, French, or Portuguese, and a demonstrable working knowledge of Windows, Macintosh, and Unix operating systems, of networking, and of common applications software, including multimedia and DVD software. Additionally, the candidate will need to know one or more scripting languages such as JavaScript or Lingo scripting. Experience and an academic background in instructional design will be advantageous, and a knowledge of language acquisition theories and current foreign language pedagogy is preferred.
