I don't have experience with such large rooms, but in smaller rooms here at Loyola very bright ceiling-mounted LCD projectors were installed. What we find is that for data projection they are fine, but for video projection they are really poor. (At a price of around $5,000 they are far inferior at video projection than old LCD video projectors which cost $3,000 six years ago!) Some make the argument that students don't demand high quality video, but I think most language teachers and certainly all film and art students would disagree. For language instruction I would also pay very close attention to audio qualitiy--many would argue that for language work this is even more important than video quality. The room the projector is in is a large one, seating 325, and the projector will be used roughly 70% for video and 30% for data. My sense is that in that large a room, and with use being mostly for video, the CRT projector would really be called for, but the pricing of the lcd projectors make them most attractive to others on this project. I know lcds are marvelous, but this is a showcase room, and we really need excellent video there. Can an lcd really deliver video in that large a space as well as a crt can? (I know what the salesmen say, but I wonder what you all think.) Thanks, Ed ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edmund N.
